Here, we investigate the translation accuracy of 16 sentences with the terms, phrases in English for Specific Purposes (ESP).

Here, we chose 16 sentences with the terms, phrases commonly used in the field of commerce, law, and and translated them into Vietnamese using Google translate and also found some interesting results.

The reason why we chose the terms, phrases is that they may be ‘challenges’ for any Vietnamese translators when translating from English to Vietnamese and then back to English (or vice versa). we look forward to receiving your comments and any suggestions you may have on our study.

* We capitalize the terms, phrases in the sentences.

1. He was ACCUSED of cheating.
a. Anh ta bị buộc tội gian lận.

2. She has twice been CONVICTED of fraud.
b. Cô đã hai lần bị kết án gian lận.

3. He was accused of APPROPRIATING club fund.
c. Ông bị buộc tội chiếm đoạt quỹ câu lạc bộ.

4. The treasurer MISAPPROPRIATED the society’s funds.
d. Thủ quỹ đã chiếm đoạt các quỹ của xã hội.

5. Revenues were DOWN 8% ON THE SAME LAST YEAR.
d. Doanh thu giảm 8% so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái.

6. Sterling is DOWN over 1% VERSUS both the dollar and yen, and OFF by 0.9% in the case AGAINST the euro.
